The Great Debate between OR State Rep David Brock Smith vs The Director of Oregon Firearms, Kevin Starrett 5:08 pm Monday, April 25, 2022, on KWRO
The debate is based on the difference of opinion that was derived from a candidate survey put out by the Oregon Firearms Federation and a comment made by State Rep David Brock Smith on FB claiming Kevin Starrett, the Director of OFF, was either “ignorant” or “not truthful” about the passage of SB554 and the actions and votes of the Republicans during the 2021 and 2022 legislative sessions.

The Oregon Legislature passed one of the most overreaching laws regulating firearms during the 2021 Legislative Session and many were surprised by how easily the Democrats enacted it. The Republicans in both the house and the senate claimed they did everything they could to defeat this bill and protect the rights of their constituents.
In that same session, it was the first-time state legislators from both parties expelled one of their members from the House of Representatives based on his act of opening the door to allow people into the State Capitol during the period when the building was closed to the public because of the Covid Pandemic.
The critics of the Republicans claim there was more the Republican legislators could have done in the house and the senate to stop SB554, the oppressive gun bill, and should have done more to stop the encroachment of the state on the liberties of its citizens. They also think the Republicans sold out for money both the house and senate members received from the federal government during the 2021 session. The critics believe it is the reason why the Republican members refused to deny the Democrats a quorum by walking out of the session.
The critics also believe the Republican Representatives should NOT have voted in favor of expelling Republican Mike Nearman from the house. They believe the Republican Reps should have stayed united in defending their fellow party member and his actions.
What is the truth?
State Rep David Brock Smith will debate the Director of Oregon Firearms, Kevin Starrett over this question.
Did the OR Republican legislators do all they could to protect the rights of their constituents during the last two legislative sessions, or did they sell out?
There are three topics up for debate to answer this question.
The three topics of debate:
1. The Actions of the Republicans during the 2021, 2022 Legislative Sessions concerning SB554
2. The Voting Record of the Bills sponsored by Rep. David Brock Smith during the 2021, 2022 Legislative Sessions
3. The expulsion of Representative Mike Nearman
Each topic will receive 15 minutes for discussion.
It will be a Firing Line-style debate where each debater will be able to question, speak, and rebut the other openly during the time allotted.
It will be an open debate with very little moderating.
Once the debate on each topic is started it will be up to both of the participants to decide where they want to take it.
