2022 State of the American Jury System

Plea bargains or jury trials? Speedy trials or indefinite detention? Representative juries or juror discrimination? Conviction required before punishment or arbitrary confiscation by civil asset forfeiture?

What the heck is going on in the American jury system these days?

In last year's inaugural State of the American Jury System event, we established a baseline on the state of the American jury system. It was not great, especially in light of changes imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kirsten will update us again this year on the state of the American jury system, with special attention to how it compares to the state of things last year and pre-pandemic.

MISSION

FIJA empowers jurors to uphold individual rights and liberty by instilling in them a rich understanding of their protective role, including jurors’ right to refuse to enforce unjust law.
