My background: I was born and raised in Portland and have lived in Portland or surrounding areas most of my life. I have worked in healthcare most of my life, and retired January of 2020. I am nothing special. Just an ordinary citizen who has opened her eyes and realized that I can’t depend on someone else to preserve my freedom.
In all honesty, I had very little interest in politics, on any level. I don’t remember ever reading the Constitution, and only vaguely remember reading the Declaration of Independence.
I became interested in national politics, at least on a superficial level, after 9/11. Over the next several years I started getting angry, but still had no desire to become involved other than yelling at my TV.
I started to understand the urgency of citizen involvement during the 2016 presidential election. However, I thought of government as something beyond my ability to understand. When I thought of government, I thought of the federal government and the presidency specifically. I never really paid any attention to anything else. I voted, at least for the top of the ticket, but did very little research. I depended on friends whose opinions I respected and a brief review of who was supporting and opposing a candidate. I knew it was important, but I still was not ready invest any time or energy.
Leading up to the 2020 elections I realized that I had to get involved on a personal level. As a Portland resident, I watched the city that I love turn to a horror show. I began to look for a group that I could become involved with, but I was also extremely cautious. I didn’t want to get involved in a group that would end up in a violent situation or be connected to others that were breaking the law.
I found Convention of States (COS). It is the only group I know of that actually has plan to get from where we are now to where we need to be. I signed the petition and asked to volunteer. I started out just calling new supporters and welcoming them. As I learned more and become more confident, I took on additional roles before focusing on one role, State Grassroots Coordinator.
We have over 36,000 supporters in Oregon and a small but mighty team of volunteers and leaders. We are connecting with our legislators, connecting with other like-minded groups, and getting out there meeting Oregonians and spreading the hope that COS has to offer.
In March, we started doing town halls throughout Oregon. Thus far this year, we have been in Tigard, Oregon City, Newport, Talent, Venita, Redmond, Pendleton, Albany, Hood River, and held our first virtual presentation earlier this month. We will be in Roseburg this Saturday and next month Woodburn and Eugene.
Without COS, I would feel hopeless in our current political climate. COS offers a step-by-step plan and if we keep putting in the work, we WILL succeed in calling for a Convention of the States and begin the process of restraining the Federal Government and retuning power to the sovereign states.
But more importantly, we will grow an army of citizens who will step up and get involved in local issues as well as local and state government.

WHY CALL A CONVENTION OF STATES?
Simple: to bring power back to the states and the people, where it belongs. Unelected bureaucrats in Washington, D.C. shouldn’t be allowed to make sweeping decisions that impact millions of Americans. But right now, they do. So it all boils down to one question: Who do you think should decide what’s best for you and your family? You, or the feds? We’d vote for the American people every single time.
WHAT’S A CONVENTION OF STATES ANYWAY?
Article V of the U.S. Constitution gives states the power to call a Convention of States to propose amendments. It takes 34 states to call the convention and 38 to ratify any amendments that are proposed. Our convention would only allow the states to discuss amendments that, “limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, impose fiscal restraints, and place term limits on federal officials.”
