SD1 Candidate for the Senate Todd Vaughn Responds to "Cease-and-Desist" Letter
CEASE AND DESIST
Have you ever received a “Cease and Desist” letter? Well, I just received one for the very first time and I can tell you it’s absolutely terrifying. The letter arrived today, April 1st, and it was no “April Fools” joke (although I thought my wife was pranking me when I came home and she told me what had come in the mail).
The letter was actually real, and guess who it was from! It was from Senator David Brock Smith’s lawyer!
In case you haven’t heard… I, Todd Vaughn, am running against David Brock Smith in a heavily contested Republican primary race for his SD1 Senate seat (which he gained by appointment when Dallas Heard resigned). My campaign has been hitting Smith hard on his “not so conservative” life-time voting record (under 70% CPAC-rating), and apparently, he doesn’t like the exposure that we have been giving him. I guess he disagrees with the old saying that “all publicity is good publicity,” and it appears that his lawyer feels the same. So, what exactly did we reveal that Senator Smith did not like.
The letter states the following:
You have violated the Oregon Corrupt Practices Act by publishing the following false statements in your voter statement: “DBS INTRODUCED LEGISLATION TO FAST-TRACK THESE WINDMILLS OFF THE OREGON COAST.” Your statement presumably is referring to HB3375, which actually only “establishes goal of planning for development of three gigawatts of commercial scale floating offshore wind energy projects within federal waters off Oregon coast by 2030 in a way that maximizes benefits and minimizes conflict with ecosystem and ocean users.”
I guess “FAST-TRACK” was the word that crossed the line with Smith and his lawyer. Does this type of “POLITICAL LAWFARE” sound familiar to anyone? Perhaps a gag-order is next!
