About Rod

Commissioner | Rod Taylor for Coos County Commissioner | Oregon (rodforcoos.com)

Rod grew up on a cattle ranch in northern California, where his dad Vern taught him animal husbandry, mechanics, farming, fabrication and important life lessons about decisions – because wrong ones could have drastic consequences. The ranch was partially supported by his dad’s business as an independent manufacturer’s representative, which provided Rod an early introduction to business that has been foundational to endeavors throughout his life. Rod’s mom Pam, who was Vern’s best partner to the end, lives in Bandon as does his brother, retired pastor Andy Taylor.

After his ranching youth, he spent a few years working in various employment for others and himself in fields including automotive parts and mechanics. In the mid-80s he began a career as a maritime operating engineer, working for a small cruise ship company in Alaska, Panama, California, and Oregon. This travel and difficult work environment did much to round out his life experiences and clarify the blessings of living in a free country and a free market.

From the late ‘80s through the late ‘90s, he built houses, and had a cabinet shop focused on high-end, custom work in the Bellingham, Washington area. Physical issues forced a change, and this came in the form of business-to-business sales in the telecom sector. One week after the 9/11 attacks, he found himself unemployed and so went back into self-employment, establishing US Survey Supply which he and his staff have operated out of Bandon since 2003 serving a customer base across the nation and the world.

With three grown children and three grandchildren (so far), Rod became increasingly concerned with their futures and the way the nation was trending. This was one of the main drivers behind his decision to get more involved politically, and in late 2020 along with some friends, he co-founded Citizens Restoring Liberty (CRL), a rights group meeting in Bandon, OR each week. This grassroots, inclusive group meets for the purpose of energizing concerned citizens and unifying the community to become actively engaged and effect meaningful change. The CRL motto – “We are all the leaders we have been waiting for” – resonated with members, and their initiatives have resulted in numerous local changes and victories.

Furthering local efforts, Rod ran for the Bandon Port Commission as well as the Coos County Transit District board in 2021, and was handily elected to both seats where he currently serves. In 2022, due to perceived lack of effective leadership on the Coos County Board of Commissioners, Rod decided (with much encouragement from many) to run for County Commissioner as well.

His driving issues in this pursuit all have one common thread: Liberty, and the belief that it is a gift from Almighty God to man, not to be trespassed by government. Among his primary concerns are local control of property and land use rights, housing affordability, reclamation of wildlife and fisheries management, support of law enforcement, and protecting our children from damaging education policies designed to change their values. Rod’s commitment to the 2nd Amendment is absolute & steadfast. He believes in complete transparency and full accountability in government, that is supposed to serve at the will of The People. He advocates for policies that incentivize responsible participation in society while providing uplifting help to those who will accept it.

Contract with Coos County

We Are The Leaders We Have Been Waiting For.

Dear Coos County,

I present my Contract with We The People of Coos County for your consideration:

I will defend your rights.

Rights are sacred; they come from God, are codified in our Constitution, and not granted by or reconciled through any government.

I will stand for election integrity.

Our vote is our input to public policy, and I will stand against anything that would undermine or suppress the voice of We The People.

I will stand for local control.

We The People of Coos County are best qualified to determine the ideal management of our resources: our timber, our salmon, our schools (and their curricula), our land use and zoning, our fiscal affairs, our parental and medical choices should not be made by unelected, unaccountable and unresponsive bureaucrats in Salem.

I will bring unprecedented levels of transparency and public involvement to County political (decision making) processes.

I will honor and support funding of law enforcement.

The safety of our law-abiding citizens and the officers that protect them must be supported.

I will stand against the epidemic of child, human and drug trafficking in Coos County.

Our police must have jail space so they can detain the criminals that prey on our communities.

I will defend your 2nd Amendment rights unequivocally.

"Shall not be infringed" means what it says.

I will support vocational training to promote a fertile, local free market landscape.

County policy should give deference to our local businesses that have weathered all the storms to make this the place we love and call home.

I will expose corruption on any level.

Regardless the political consequences, I will always stand for truth and transparency. The love of money is the root of all sorts of evil, and I will never tolerate graft of any kind – let the chips fall where they may.

I will honor my Oath to the letter.

My unwavering commitment to We the People of Coos County is to always remain accessible and accountable. I will always listen to and respect you, even if we disagree.

I love God, my Country, my community and its People.

This is OUR time, but we don’t have much time. Please join me in restoring what should never have been taken from us. Register and VOTE for Rod Taylor, Coos County Commissioner Position 3.
