Diane Rich Bio:
I am a single parent of three children. I have a 4-year-old granddaughter named Willow. My son Ryan is the Director of Behavioral Health at “G” Street Integrated Medical in Springfield. My daughter Laine speaks 4 languages and has visited Japan as a guest of the Japanese government. They want her to move to Japan. My middle child, Robert, passed away in 2014.
I grew up in the printing industry and was named Secretary of the Lithocrafters Association of Utah when I was only 18. I was the second woman outside print salesperson in the State of Utah.
I founded Color Media Consultants in Salt Lake City, this advertising agency provided services for the US Army, US Airforce, Utah Scientific, Laird Telemedia, Dick Simon Trucking, Tooele County Commission, the Salt Lake City Olympic Bid Committee, Wilson Tennis, Marker Ski, Freestyle Watch, and Synergy Group.
I was named One of the Top Ten Women in Business in Utah by the Young Republicans although at that time, I was not a Republican, I was an independent.
I was highly involved with the Tooele County Commission including becoming the Ambassador for Tooele County during the Utah Sesquicentennial, I was appointed the Public Relations Manager for the Bonneville Salt Flats Welcome Center, the Tooele County Arts Festival, and the Benson Grist Mill. I was a consultant to the Tooele County Economic Development board, and the Tooele County Emergency Management Council. I produced a 24-page coloring book detailing the historical places to visit in Tooele County and later I produced a passport that was used to promote visits to the historic sites with a free T-shirt as a completion prize. This was very successful, and most of all it was really fun.
My work for the Army included filming the demil of the Nike-Herc missiles.
After I sold my advertising agency, I became the Director of Marketing for Dick Simon Trucking. While I worked there, the company grew from 400 drivers to 1100 drivers and landed business with companies like Nestle Food, Kraft, Campbell’s Soup, Albertsons, and many others. Later, we were interviewed by INC Magazine, as our sales grew from $36 million to $94 million, a growth rate of 29% respectively maintained for 4 years.
At this time, I was awarded honorary degrees from both the University of Utah and BYU if I entered their master’s degree program.
I knew the Olympics were coming and purchased a bar near the Army Depot knowing that the service workers would be housed there. I operated the bar for five years but really didn’t like the lifestyle. It was not a good fit for me.
I lived in Phoenix for a brief time and then moved to Eugene where I was employed as the National Sales Manager for LRI Photon Micro Lights. I worked with clients like REI, Big Five, and was able to acquire trademark agreements with Dale Earnhardt, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Mark Martin. Then, I landed two GSA contracts for law enforcement and promotional products and worked as the contract administrator for these contracts.
After landing these GSA contracts I became a guest speaker for the SBA in their program, “How to do business with the government.” I was also invited to become a Member of the Pacific Northwest Defense Coalition which I accepted.
My father had cancer so in 2011 I returned to Utah to care for hm and after he passed, we moved back to Eugene and I was hired to be the National Sales Manager for High-Tech Transport, Air-Weigh Onboard Scales. I spend many years working in the Energy market specifically with clients like Love’s Truck Stops, Haliburton, Nabors, I worked with both upstream and downstream service providers for the energy market.
My son Robert died in 2014 and I was devasted. Finally with help from good friends I was able to learn how to write computer code and I went to back into business again with ACTNow Retention Services, LLC.
For years I worked with Steven Kanten PhD, owner of KCI Training in Park City, Utah providing interactive online training programs for NASA, Boeing, and the Social Security Administration. I moved to North Bend in December of 2019, when COVID hit my business was decimated as Steven retired, the Chamber of Commerce disappeared, and my business dried up.
I applied to be the general manager at the Quality Inn & Suites, and I worked there until I was diagnosed with cancer. Fortunately, we caught it early and now I am cancer-free.
Currently I am back building websites including my website www.orsoco.com Oregon’s South Coast Coloring Sheets website that will start providing Coloring Sheet contests in May of this year. Many business owners are sponsoring the Coloring Sheets and the sheets are free to anyone who like to color. I produced this website to help put a bit of fun back into our lives…we really need i
