CURRY COMMISSIONER COURT BOICE JOINS OREGON GOVERNORS RACE
Housing, Law Enforcement, Water, Family Values, Constitutional Protections, Timber Harvest, Watersheds, Fish, Wildlife, Rivers and always Fire Prevention remain Court Boice’s biggest areas or work. Of all the Oregon Governor Candidates, no one has his level of Natural Resources and Fire Awareness experience and expertise.
Boice is in Curry mid-term, so won’t compromise his full-time working Commissioner responsibilities. He ran for U.S. Congress, District 4 in 2018 with the goal of stopping the horrific Catastrophic Fires and it helped. After the heart-breaking loss of 360,000 acres combined between the Chetco Bar and Klondike Fires which came so close to both Brookings in 2017 and Agness in
2018, he proudly recaps the tremendous successes of all our local Fire Prevention Fire Fighting Teams. Of the last 3 Fire Seasons, Curry County collectively has lost less than 300 acres.
Court Boice believes that when it comes to our Housing Emergency, the Oregon Land Use Laws, regulations, and restrictions make it very difficult for desperately needed Property and Home Development Projects. He commented, “In Curry County, we have new Law Enforcement Officers, Teachers and Medical Providers moving here with no place to live. That is completely unacceptable, and we cannot afford to lose them! The current Oregon Legislature is dominated by an elite group in control of our State Government. A huge undertaking, Rural Oregon works hard to feed Oregonians, so why in the world would we make things more difficult for them as well? Those in power don’t care about Timber Operators, Farmers, Ranchers, our rural way of life or the lack of Housing! I’m going to keep working to do more than my part to solve that!”
Boice has no higher Public Office aspirations, however, speaking out in this venue is an additional way he can be effective and help our Citizens. He concluded, “I’ve built excellent relationships around Oregon and they’re paying close attention to our issues. We’re gaining positive work on our housing, fire, and other important concerns impacting the Curry people and we are succeeding”. He attended a Timber Unity debate on April 7th and intends to keep speaking boldly,
although his plans are to do very little traveling outside of the County. His intent is to again bring positive Statewide attention to the critical issues impacting Citizens.
Commissioner Boice remains fully committed to his important Natural Resource Board Memberships, serving with the Association of O&C Counties, Oregon Timber County Coalition, Oregon Coastal Zone Management, Rogue Siskiyou Fire Training Center, Curry Forest Collaborative, Sudden Oak Death Task Force, Association of Oregon Counties Natural Resources and is Chairman of the AOC District 5 Coos, Curry, Douglas, Jackson, and Josephine County Board. He also serves on the Boards of Travel Southern Oregon Coast, Oregon Coast Energy Alliance, and U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Pacific Coast Trail, Southern Oregon Workforce Investment, Advanced Health Care Advisory and the Coos, Curry Douglas Business Development Corporation.
